“It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update. Big shoutout to our road crews for their work last weekend. In preparation for the winter storm, which dumped three to four inches of snow depending on where you live in the county, our crews started spraying brine on the roads Wednesday, applying 100,000 gallons on about 850 miles of road. Once the snow started Friday, our folks were hard at it, plowing the roadways and spreading about 900 tons of salt.
They worked late into Friday and started back up early Saturday morning and many of them ended up sleeping at the Engineering and Public Works building. By Sunday, most of our roads were in pretty good shape for the Monday morning work commute. I’m extremely proud of our guys. While we are encouraging everyone else to minimize their travel, these folks are out there working long, hard hours and rarely complaining about it. Thank you so much for all that you all do!
Tuesday was the first day of the 114th Tennessee General Assembly. I was in Nashville to visit with legislators and other state officials. Good luck to them as they move through the session. I also traveled to Carter County to discuss our efforts here in Knox County, to mitigate the drug epidemic. And I was happy to attend an event at the University of Tennessee to recognize Knox County’s JROTC programs and participants. Until next Friday, I hope everyone has a great week!”
