Our office serves as a passport agent for the US Department Of State. We have No Control over the time it takes in receiving the completed passport. Our agents will provide you with instructions on how to track your passport once your paperwork has left our office.

TO APPLY FOR A NEW PASSPORT
You will need to apply in person with the following:
- A Certified Birth Certificate, including parent(s) names (No photocopies are accepted)
- A valid Driver License or State Identification
- Two (2) Checks or Money Orders (See fees)
- One (1) official Passport Photos (Passport photos can be obtained onsite)
- Social Security Number for each applicant, The SSN card is not required to be brought in but the number will be needed for the application
CHILDREN UNDER 16
All children under age 16 must apply for a passport in person with the consent of all parents or guardians using Form DS-11. You cannot renew your child's passport using Form DS-82. More details can be found on travel.state.gov.
APPLICANTS AGE 16 AND 17
If you have your own current identification document (ID), you may apply for a passport. You must show that at least one legal parent or legal guardian is aware that you are applying for a passport. More details can be found on travel.state.gov.

Note: The status is typically available online 5-7 days after applying.
TO RENEW AN EXISTING PASSPORT, follow the steps on the renewal application form to mail in your passport renewal. We provide passport photos on-site for $12 each (set of two), or you may provide your own. Passports are renewable up to five (5) years from the date of expiration. After the five year period has lapsed, you must apply as a first time applicant.
Note: This renewal process only applies to Adult Passports that was issued for a duration of 10 years.

It is important to realize that you will not be issued a Passport immediately. The completed application will be sent to the Passport Services in the US Department of State. Due to the high volume of U.S. Passport applications, processing has taken up to 10 weeks from date of remittance. The U.S. Department of State does offer an expedited application option for an additional fee. To view the current processing times, please visit the Department of State’s website here.
*Passport applications must include a photocopy front and back of the applicant’s proof of identity (ID card, driver’s license, or other acceptable proof of identity) and a photocopy of their proof of citizenship (certified birth certificate, naturalization certificate, consular report of birth abroad, and certificate of citizenship). Applicants may provide their own copies or pay the County Clerk to make photocopies to accompany the passport applications. Photocopies must be legible, on standard white 8.5” X 11” paper, be in black ink, and one sided. The County Clerk will charge .50₵ per photocopy.
Payment Information
The Knox County Clerk's Office accepts cash, checks, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) for photo and execution fees. We can only accept checks or money orders for the application fees which are remitted to the U.S. Department of State. We cannot accept cash or credit card for this payment. A fee of 2.5% is assessed by the electronic processing company on all credit and debit card transactions. This fee does not go to the Knox County Clerk's Office. When you submit a check, you are authorizing electronic movement of funds from your account to the Knox County Clerk's account for payment of your transaction. There is a $30.00 NSF fee on all returned checks that are processed electronically. For those checks that are not processed electronically, the following statutory penalties will apply: the amount of the check on any amount owing less than or equal to twenty dollars, $20.00 on any amount owing greater than twenty dollars but less than two thousand dollars, and 1% on any amount owing greater than two thousand dollars.
