CHANT serves residents of Knox County from birth to 21 years of age, who have a chronic illness or medical condition that may affect the independent functioning of a child or young adult.
Children's Special Services (CSS) provides reimbursement for medical services and care coordination for children with physical disabilities from birth to 21 years of age.

CSS Services are available for those who meet all eligibility requirements below.
- 21 years of age or younger
- Those that meet the CSS program’s diagnostic guidelines
- Those that meet the CSS program’s financial guidelines
- Those who live in Knox County
Based upon an eligible diagnosis, CSS may pay for the following services:
- Braces and artificial limbs
- Care coordination
- Diagnostic evaluation
- Durable medical equipment
- Hearing aids
- Hospitalization
- Medical and surgical treatment
- Physical and occupational therapy
- Prescription drug coverage
- Rehabilitation services
- Special formula/foods
- Speech and language therapy
- Wheelchairs and walkers
CSS does not provide payment for the following services:
- Basic dental care
- Care for treatment for a condition not approved by CSS
- Meals for parents of children in the hospital
- Reimbursement for transportation
- Visits to health care providers who are not approved by CSS
If you are in the CSS program, please notify your CSS Care Coordinator in the following situations.
- If your insurance changes.
- If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment.
- If you move or change your phone number.
- If you receive a medical bill you feel should be covered by CSS.
- If your child’s diagnosis or medical condition changes.
- When you receive a denial for services from your insurance.
