What is Safe Bar?

Safe Bar logo

The Safe Bar program is part of an initiative supported by the Tennessee Department of Health. KCHD is partnering with local agencies to train and certify local bars, restaurants, and community organizations to recognize and respond to harassment and sexual violence with the goal of creating safer nightlife spaces.

Why should bars get the Safe Bar certification?

Following certification, participating bars are given a Safe Bar window cling to display, Safe Bar posters, Safe Bar koozies, and pens, as well as a binder with local resources to support staff in helping patrons needing assistance.

What is included in training?

Training includes FREE, in-person education on bystander intervention while raising awareness about alcohol's role in sexual assault and harassing behaviors.

The Knox County Health Department (KCHD) has produced a series of videos to help guide adults through the subject of child sexual abuse and prevention. This four-part series discusses:

  • Why children might not tell (about abuse)
  • Indicators of (potential) child sexual abuse
  • Who can be a perpetrator and how they think
  • How to talk to your child about personal body safety
  • What a child can do if they feel they are in an unsafe situation
  • Reporting abuse

You can learn more about child sexual abuse and prevention by clicking here.
